Google – The New World Temple
In the ancient world, temples (yes, the
ones we people go to pray) were the center of all things. Of course, they were
considered sacred and people believed that the all-knowing and powerful entity
lived inside the temple portals. It was also a place that imparted learning for
students, gave employment to few. It was also a place where people congregated
regularly and most people frequented and spent their free time in its premises.
Temples were also a place that provided opportunity for cultural growth – be it
the dances, the sculptors, paintings etc; The temple neighbourhood always
brimmed with business – people selling their wares – flowers, food, pottery, clothes,
jewels, etc. Yes, temples played a
significant role in terms of social, economic, religious, political, cultural,
educational purposes in those times
While some of these roles were soon
taken over by big manufacturing industries, there was no clear consolidation of
one entity that was the driving force behind all the activities – social,
economic, knowledge, etc
In today’s world, without saying,
Google is playing this role. From the various activities that Google is into –
company, service provider, media company, etc it truly is temple of the new
world. Let’s go step by step
- - Google is the all knowing entity; for any information/solution we seek, we Google
- - The Google research, scholarly articles, etc for the serious knowledge seekers
- - The Google books, to capture and digitalize all the books, again for knowledge seekers
- - The common source of information transfer – gmail, gtalk
- - Google +, hangouts, and few failed ventures – Wave, Orkut,.. for people to meet, congregate and spending their free time
- - Blogger, YouTube, providing platform for artistic and cultural growth
- - The open source, Google API’s promoting developers to come with creative solutions to problems
- - E-com enabled marketplaces..
- -
The Google labs for the
infinite possibilities that the company is working on (Driverless cars, Google Glass, etc)... actually making the impossible, possible
As individuals or as a business entity,
one could make a complete business just by keeping themselves revolving around
Google and its products. In fact, many businesses run just by being aligned to
Google. Some things that comes to my mind are:
- - Just blog about what’s happening in Google
- - Consult on SEO
- - Advertising: Adwords /Double-Click
- - Google Analytics - work as consultants
- - Developers using Google – APIs
- - Android developers
- - Create brand-pages on YouTube Channel and also content for YouTube
- - Google+ presence and become social media experts
In fact, if anyone wants to be in digital marketing – just following Google and building a business model around it is a safe idea.
C Cheers!
